Ayutthaya, Bangkok

Ayutthaya, Bangkok

If you’re planning a trip to Thailand, you’ll want to add Ayutthaya and Bangkok to your list of places to see. These two cities are full of history, culture, and beautiful temples. In this article, we’ll give you a brief introduction to both cities so that you can start planning your trip!

History

Bangkok was founded in 1782 by King Rama I after the destruction of Ayutthaya by the Burmese. It was originally called Krung Thep, or "City of Angels". Bangkok quickly became the capital of Siam and grew into a prosperous city.

King Rama III made Bangkok the main trading port for Siam, and it soon became known as the "Venice of the East". The city continued to grow and prosper under King Rama V, who made many improvements to infrastructure and developed Bangkok into a modern city.

Today, Bangkok is a bustling metropolis and the capital of Thailand. It is a popular tourist destination, with its rich history, beautiful temples, and lively nightlife.

Culture

When visiting Bangkok, be sure to set some time aside to explore the fascinating city of Ayutthaya. This ancient city was once the capital of Siam, and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are many temples and ruins to explore, as well as a great museum. Be sure to dress modestly when visiting religious sites, and be respectful of local customs.

Cuisine

When it comes to food, Bangkok and Ayutthaya offer a wide variety of options. From street food to fine dining, there's something for everyone.

If you're looking for a quick and cheap meal, street food is a great option. You'll find plenty of vendors selling all sorts of snacks and meals. Just be sure to use your common sense when it comes to choosing a vendor, as not all are created equal.

For something a bit more upscale, there are plenty of great restaurants in both Bangkok and Ayutthaya. If you're not sure what to try, Thai food is always a safe bet. But with so many different cuisines available, you're sure to find something to your taste.

Tourist Attractions

Bangkok is the capital and most populous city of Thailand. It is known in Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon or simply Krung Thep. The city occupies 1,568.7 square kilometres (605.7 sq mi) in the Chao Phraya River delta in Central Thailand, and has a population of over eight million, or 12.6 percent of the country's population.

Shopping

When in Bangkok, be sure to check out the shopping scene! From high-end designer brands to local markets, there is something for everyone. For those looking for a bargain, head to Chatuchak Market where you can find everything from clothes to souvenirs. For a more upscale shopping experience, visit Siam Paragon which houses luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Hermes.

No matter what your budget is, you are sure to find great shopping options in Bangkok!

Accommodation

There are a few accommodation options in and around Bangkok, but if you're looking to stay in the city center, your best bet is Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya is home to a number of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels, so you're sure to find something to fit your budget. Keep in mind that prices will be higher during peak travel times (November-February).

If you're looking for a luxury hotel, the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok is a great option. Located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, this hotel offers stunning views of the cityscape. If you're on a tighter budget, the Ayutthaya Riverside Hotel is a good mid-range option. For something more affordable, try the Baan Bovorn Guesthouse.

Whichever accommodation you choose, you'll be centrally located to explore all that Bangkok has to offer!

Getting There

There are a few ways to get to Ayutthaya from Bangkok. The easiest and most popular way is by train. There are several trains that depart from Bangkok’s main train station, Hua Lamphong, to Ayutthaya every day. The journey takes about 1.5 hours and tickets can be purchased at the station on the day of travel.

Another option is to take a bus from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit 2). There are several companies that operate buses to Ayutthaya and the journey takes around 2 hours. Tickets can be bought in advance or on the day of travel.

The final option is to drive yourself or rent a car with a driver. The drive from Bangkok to Ayutthaya takes around 1 hour depending on traffic.

When to Go

The best time to visit Bangkok and Ayutthaya is during the cool season, which runs from November to February. These months see the least amount of rainfall and the temperatures are more comfortable than the hot season. If you're looking to avoid the crowds, plan your trip for mid-week as weekends tend to be busier.
